Meet Janny

I’m a nonprofit fundraiser, strategist, and advocate dedicated to helping mission-driven organizations grow and thrive. With a doctorate in anthropology and CFRE certification in fundraising, I bring a deep commitment to listening, understanding cultural and historical contexts, and mobilizing resources to drive systemic change. My approach to fundraising is rooted in relationship-building, storytelling, and equity-driven philanthropy, ensuring organizations have the resources they need to make a lasting impact.

My path began when I joined the Peace Corps after college, an experience that changed my life forever and sparked my lifelong connection to Africa and global development. Since then, I’ve worked across the U.S. and Africa supporting initiatives in education, STEM, literacy, and women’s leadership through partnerships with organizations such as the Next Einstein Forum, African Institute for Mathematical Sciences, and Books for Africa. These experiences deepened my passion for gender justice, economic equity, and leadership development, which continue to shape my work today.

My training in ethnography shapes how I approach both fundraising and coaching. Ethnography is about immersing in a community to understand its values, relationships, and systems—and how they influence how people work and connect. I bring that same lens to organizations, taking time to understand their culture and context before designing strategy. This approach helps teams build trust, strengthen donor, client, and community relationships, and create fundraising processes that reflect who they are and what they stand for.

Currently, I lead fundraising strategy at a national nonprofit focused on advancing economic and racial justice. Through ArtsUmoja, I partner with local and global organizations and small businesses—especially those led by women and people of color—to strengthen development strategy, diversify funding, and build systems that reflect their values. I also volunteer as a grant reader for United Way Dallas and support the Mandela Washington Fellowship, helping emerging leaders secure funding to expand their impact.

At the heart of my work, I believe fundraising and organizational growth are both relational and transformative. They’re about listening deeply, building relationships, and shifting power so that mission-driven organizations and businesses have what they need to thrive

Meet Marianela

I help nonprofits and arts organizations gain administrative clarity and make informed decisions. With a background as a finance engineer, I bring a systems-oriented approach to budgeting, payroll, and operational strategy—supporting organizations in achieving lasting, sustainable success.

As both an arts administrator and performing musician, I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with talented artists across New York City and internationally. Highlights include receiving the Performing Arts Fellowship at International House NYC - where I curated free performances for a global student community - and working as a piano accompanist for MET Opera soprano Osceola Davis, supporting CUNY pre-college students.

Currently, I serve as an accounting manager for several organizations, optimizing financial systems through periods of transition. I also work as the Assistant Director of HR and Operations at an NYC-based arts education nonprofit, where I foster a positive and efficient workplace. My past roles at Teaching Artists Guild (TAG), Turtle Bay Music School, Alliance Artists Management, and Argento New Music Project have focused on improving operations, promoting fair compensation, and supporting transparent communication.

Beyond administration, I’m passionate about performing and researching piano and organ music - particularly in choral settings - and highlighting underrepresented musical traditions through inclusive programming.

At the heart of my work is a belief in sustainable, people-centered systems. Whether building processes, collaborating with artists, or managing change, I’m committed to helping mission-driven organizations thrive.
